Building a home means making choices. Some may appear simple while others are daunting. J.E. Hemphill will guide you through every step of the building process. We are advocate, sounding board, realist, and visionary all rolled into one convenient package:

  1. First, we discuss what kind of floor plan you'd like. We'll help you decide how many rooms are needed to match your lifestyle, what kind of floor plan will naturally flow, the total square footage of your future home, and other basics. These elements establish a conceptual foundation for the architect.
  2. Next, we can either recommend an architect or work with an architect of your choosing. Based on our discussions, the architect comes up with several floor plan sketches, out of which a final floor plan can be refined.

  3. After a floor plan is created, a similar draft/refinement procedure is used to create elevations (exterior design views) of the home. From an aesthetic point of view, we'd like the house to blend-and take advantage of-the existing topography. A home with elegant interiors and a street presence to match is a rare jewel worth the effort.

  4. Now actual construction begins. We often arrange for clients to see interiors of homes we’ve built so they can get ideas about flooring, trim work, and other details. Then we can talk about ways of incorporating things they like into the house they want for the budget at hand. If they don’t already have the assistance of a designer, we can provide a list of decisions to make and timing for when things need to be done to keep the building process moving forward.
